Title | Looking For O'Mens |
Summary | May a person make decisions based on the flip of a coin or the roll of a dice? This referred back to the words of Chazal regarding 'Nichush' with regards to, for example, walking under a ladder or a black cat crossing ones path. A remarkable Gemara in Chullin was quoted with regard to Rav, who was heard saying that the boat had arrived at precisely the right time that he needed it! The question that arose was whether this was considered Nichush or not. The Shulchan Aruch also discusses whether one may state that he will only commit a certain action dependent on a future event (in modern day terms this could be for instance, if the phone rings 3 times and then stops)? |
