Title | Mitzvos Are Beautiful |
Summary | Today's beautiful Shiur presented the following Halachic debate: If I have a dilemma of whether to perform a Mitzva now - with "zerizus" - or wait until a later opportunity, whereupon the Mitzvah is likely to be able to be performed with more hiddur - which choice should I opt for? The Chazal upon which the Shiur was based upon is the famous Rashi (which appears both here in Noso and a slight variation in Parshas Vayakhel) that asks why the Nesiim were punished for delaying with their contribution. Various scenarios were introduced, to help illustrate the point, e.g. a case in Maseches Yevamos regarding the ideal order of preference when carrying out Yibbum and also regarding Kiddush Levonoh (in countries where the weather is not an issue...!) - if the moon appears on Tuesday, shall I recite the Brocho immediately - or perhaps wait until Motzei Shabbos when I will be dressed in my Shabbos refinery? How about if I am in Shul and I have forgotten my Arba Minim - but I can borrow my colleague's (less Mehudar) set - what should I do? Other proofs were then brought. However, as a bottom line, it was suggested that whilst the logic of the Nesiim might have well been correct, it was not for them to make this "reckoning" - they should have just donated 'there and then'. |
