This was due to his many bowings, which begs the obvious question - how could he interrupt his Amidah in such a manner?  This leads to a big debate in the Rishonim as to what exactly constitutes a Hefsek when davenning.  \r\n\r\nVarious other extremely interesting and pertinent Shaalos then arose, for instance, from when may a Chazzan move around after Chazoras Hashatz?  If I find myself in the middle of the Amidah without a Siddur and I am getting confused, may I go the shelf to get one?
