| Summary | Reb Yossi Shlit"a discussed the story of Pinchas, concentrating on the halachic debate of whether a Kohen who kills someone is permitted to duchen. In this regard, he brought a Chida who quotes an apparent contradiction as to when Pinchos actually became a Kohen! In any event, on the basis that Pinchos killed Zimri, how could he retain his Kohen status? So Toisfos in 2 places says that whilst a Kohen who kills may not Duchen, he may still perform the Avoidah. This point became a springboard to numerous other issues e.g. the Psul of a Kohen killing is only if he kills 'regularly' but with Pinchos it was only a 'one off'; furthermore he killed Leshaim Shomayim due to his 'kano'us'. Indeed, we see by the Eigel Hazohov that the Shevet Levi killed around 3 thousand men - again, there they were acting in accordance with the will of Hashem! The Shiur simply dazzled, with further ideas from the Chiddushei Harim, the Steipler and the Aderes, to name but a few. The latter part of the Shiur took a slight twist, and thereafter focussed on the concept of Techiyas Hamaisim. Not to be missed...! |
