Title | May I Build A Window Overlooking My Neighbours Property? |
Summary | Am I allowed to make a home extension if my window will overlook the garden and/or property of my neighbour? Is it worse if my neighbour has a swimming pool in his back garden? There are numerous problems here, all of which were discussed, most expertly. One is the tznius/privacy issue, another is Ayin Hora (the Steipler has a debate as to whether one would be Chayav Nezek out of damage which was brought about as a result of Ayin Hora!), and another issue is that "Hezek Rei'oh" is deemed to cause a reduction in the amount of potential usage that the owner has from his property. Reb Matisyohu Shlit"a explains that a person was born with a tendency to be curious, but our duty is to 'direct' that curiosity towards good things e.g. be curious about a Sugya - and then deliver a Shiur based on the knowledge accumulated! Other topics today included the issur of withholding information that you know will be important to the recipient e.g. with regard to a potential Shidduch or business proposal. Miss this one at your peril....! |
