| Summary | What makes children go "off the Derech"? It could be one of 7 areas: 1) Lack of physical health and development 2) Family dynamics 3) Learning and skills acquisitions 4) Emotional health and well being 5) Social integration 6) Protection against harm by others 7) Protection against self-destructive behaviour. But what do these items really mean? Furthermore, we are living in a very "provisionsal" life where committments are often meaningless - "I can simply tap out a text message and postpone my arranged meeting for half an hour later"! Children must be allowed to ask questions even if they are Emunah-related. Why do we seek to reject a child who seems to be going off the Derech - yet we embrace a Bal Teshuva who is also only keeping certain Mitzvos, at the beginning of his becoming closer to Yidishkeit?! All this plus much more...! |
